Here's a gem of a little book for those of us whose fate often hangs on an an extra space or em-dash: An Embarrassment of Misprints, by Max Hall. An aficionado of the typo, Max collected real-life examples of editorial and printing errors over his lifetime as a newspaper man. They are both entertaining and edifying -- ranging from an Elizabethan edition of the Bible that misprinted the seventh commandment ("thou shalt commit adultery") to errors in spacing (a major newspaper printed the headline "governor's pen is busy over weekend" with the second and third word kerned too tightly).
